The Quokka

The "Happiest animal in the world" is a marsupial. You probably know it from bunches of guys who took selfies with it. Usually, everyone takes a picture with it whenever they go to Rottnest Island, but actually, that is totally forbidden. It could cost you $300 just for taking a picture with a cute-faced animal. If you get caught. Anyway, it creates shelter to stay under at daytime, and goes out at night to find food. Its simple diet consists of grass, leaves, and roots. The quokka has pretty sharp claws, but is not really dangerous, because it doesn't really fear humans. Nobody knows why it always smiles. People used to think this is because it is really dumb. There is probably a better explanation somewhere.

We may never know. And that is totally fine, because nobody cares. If he seems happy, then we are happy.

Melbourne

Melbourne is the second more populous city of Australia, just after Sydney. This city, capital of Victoria, was founded by settlers in 1835. The city is an important centre of Australian economic activity, culture and tourism, but is also well-known for its very diverse architecture. It is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, with people from all around the world who came to Australia during all its history. Chinese people, refugees who have fled war and migrants from Vietnam and Cambodia...

By the way, if you want to see it from above, you can rent a hot air balloon, as it is one of the only cities in the world that allows people to ride a balloon right over the skyline. Enjoy watching Melbourne being illuminated by the sunrise, from the beautifully couloured sky.

Finding Nemo

Actually, this is not an Australian movie. It was produced by Disney and Pixar studios, and directed by Andrew Stanton. However, the plot takes place in the ocean around Australia. This computer-made movie tells the story of Marlin, a clownfish who is going to live a great journey to find his son, Nemo, who was taken away from him by an unfortunate event. He will come across Dory, a blue surgeon fish, who suffers from short-term memory loss (just like the main character from Nolan's Memento ). The movie was very well-received, by both critics and public, and is now considered as one of the best Pixar movies, along with Toy Story 3, for example.
